According to Edward Humes, he believes that people can slash their trash accumulation by 30 to 50% without much effort at all. Here at Keep Liberty Beautiful we love when people recycle and make that extra effort! It keeps our county clean and beautiful, so here are some suggestions on how to not be so trashy..
>Instead of tossing 60 million containers of water, look for reusable glass or stainless steel bottles. >The US doesn't have to throw away 28 billion pounds of food a year, so take some time to learn how to properly freeze or can extras in reusable containers. >Any paper, magazines, books, cardboard, etc.? Find your nearest recycling center. You'll use them more often once you get that lovely recycling feeling. >Companies waste 10% of the world's oil supply making and distributing disposable items when it all ends up in the trash; grab a fork from home! >I bet you have new carpet? Americans send out 5.7 million tons of carpet to landfills. It's called recycling people. >Wasting 4.5 million tons of office paper in a year is terrible. Remind yourself, do you really need to print that? Remember, when printing, make it double-sided. >Have clothes, furniture, or even toys you don't need or want? It is pretty simple. Look for your nearest Goodwill, have a yard sale, or donate it to someone who will use it. >4 million pairs of eyeglasses are trashed every year! Certain organizations do take them to be recycle them or donated to others.
